Manisa Celal Bayar University was established as a new higher education institution in Manisa under the name of Celal Bayar University by the additional provision 15 added to Article 25 of Law No. 3837, published in the Official Gazette on July 11, 1992. According to its establishment law, the university was formed by reorganizing and incorporating various faculties and schools. These include the newly established Faculty of Science and Letters, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which was formed by changing the names and affiliations of existing faculties such as the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Architecture previously affiliated with Dokuz Eylül University.
The roots of the university trace back to the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, which was the first institution of higher education in Manisa. Established as the Manisa Accounting Preparatory School in 1975, it underwent several name changes and transformations over the years. Similarly, other faculties such as the Faculty of Education and Faculty of Sports Sciences were established and expanded over time.
