The land, part of the Sultan II. Bayezid-i Veli Foundation and a host to many educational institutions during Ottoman modernization, was allocated to the İlim Yayma Foundation to establish a university. Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University was founded by the İlim Yayma Foundation in 2010 under the provisions of the Higher Education Law No. 2547. The premises, where Mehmed Âkif Ersoy studied and taught, now serve Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. The dining hall used by Mehmed Âkif and his friends is now the office of the university rector, adorned with the full verses of the National Anthem and a large portrait of Mehmed Âkif.
