The foundations of Bezm-i Âlem Foundation University were laid by Bezm-i Âlem Valide Sultan, the wife of Sultan Mahmud II, in 1845. It was established as the most modern and well-equipped institution of its time, providing health and education services on par with the West. Since its inception, Bezm-i Âlem has continued its services in the health sector and transitioned into a university in 2010, bringing its accumulated knowledge into the academic field. Affiliated with the General Directorate of Foundations of the Republic of Turkey, Bezm-i Âlem Foundation University has gained national and international recognition. With over 700 respected academics, it offers education to more than 3,200 students across its Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Health Sciences, and its Vocational School of Health Services. The university is distinguished by its OSCE Halls and Skills Laboratory, which are the first and most well-equipped in Turkey, allowing students to practice on mannequins before encountering real patients. Approximately one academician is available for every five students, emphasizing personalized education. The university's two hospitals and additional service buildings provide ample opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience with patients, ensuring they reach a sufficient level of proficiency.
