Bingöl University was established on May 29, 2007. Since then, it has been continuously developing in terms of physical infrastructure, research activities, academic and administrative staff numbers, and qualifications. Several faculties and institutes have been established under the umbrella of Bingöl University over the years:
In 2010 Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, In 2011 Faculty of Theology, School of Foreign Languages, and Institute of Living Languages, In 2012 Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and School of Physical Education and Sports (Faculty of Sports Sciences), In 2013 Institute of Health Sciences and Faculty of Dentistry, In 2016: School of Health Sciences was closed, and instead, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Institute of Health Sciences were established, In 2022 Faculty of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation was founded.
Currently, Bingöl University comprises 10 faculties, 1 vocational school, 5 institutes, 6 vocational schools, 21 research centers, and 1 laboratory. It conducts education and research activities with a total of 190 programs, including 84 associate degree, 42 undergraduate, 48 master's, and 16 doctoral programs, serving 16,518 students.
The main campus hosts a modern library open 24 hours a day for students, as well as a congress center where scientific and artistic events such as symposiums, panels, workshops, concerts, and exhibitions take place. Bingöl University was selected as a pilot university in two areas in 2017 and 2018. In 2017, it was chosen under the "Regional Development-Oriented Mission Differentiation and Specialization" Project funded by the Ministry of Development and planned by the Council of Higher Education in the field of Agriculture and Basin-Based Development. In 2018, it was selected as a pilot university for "Digital Transformation" efforts in higher education.
Bingöl University, as a specialized university where nature meets technology, strives to provide education and conduct research in line with current knowledge and technology, both in terms of educational and research development and academic achievement, at national and international standards.
