Marmara University

Marmara University is one of the oldest educational institutions in our country. The core of Marmara University is formed by Hamidiye School of Commerce, which was established in 1883 in the mansion of İzzet Efendi in Kanlıfırın and moved to the mansion of Hakkı Bey in Beyazıt in 1890. With the declaration of the Republic, its name was changed to School of Higher Commerce. Our institution, which graduated its first students (13 people) in 1887, was transformed into the School of Higher Economics and Commerce at the beginning of the 1924-1925 academic year and is the first educational institution in our country where male and female students received education together (co-education). In 1959, it was renamed Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences (İİTİA). The building in the Sultanahmet district, used by the academy, underwent some changes between the time it was built and the 1970s. Istanbul Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences was transformed into Marmara University with the "Decree-Law on Higher Education Institutions" published in the Official Gazette dated July 20, 1982 and numbered 17760. Our university, which started its journey with 9 faculties, 1 college, and 1 institute in the 1982-1983 academic year, continues its activities today with 21 faculties, 1 college, 4 vocational schools, and 12 institutes.

The number of associate and undergraduate programs currently active at our university is 153. Marmara University, with its more than 3000 academic staff and over 70,000 students, is one of the important higher education institutions contributing to Turkey's scientific accumulation. Marmara University, which encompasses education in Turkish, English, French, German, and Arabic in its academic units including faculties such as Economics, Business Administration, Political Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Fine Arts, and Theology, is one of the multilingual universities in Turkey. After 1982, Marmara University has rapidly grown and continues its education, research, and application activities through various institutes, faculties, colleges, vocational schools, and research application centers.
